Online casino basics in Ontario

Online casino play is regulated in Ontario. This page explains who runs the market and how to check whether a site belongs to it.

How the market works

Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. Two separate bodies are involved. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages the market. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, known as the AGCO, regulates it. Keeping the two roles apart means the body that manages the market is not the one that regulates it.

The legal age for online gambling in Ontario is 19, the same as for the province's casinos. Players must also be physically located in Ontario to play. Both conditions apply to anyone using a site in the regulated market.

Checking a site

iGaming Ontario publishes the list of regulated online gambling sites at igamingontario.ca. A site that is not on that list is not part of Ontario's regulated market. The list is the reference to check before using any site. This page does not recommend any operator.

OLG.ca is the online site of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the provincial agency. Self-exclusion through BetGuard, covered below, includes OLG.ca as well as the other regulated sites.

Stopping play

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, lets a person exclude themselves from all regulated Ontario gambling sites, including OLG.ca. iGaming Ontario has run it since May 14, 2026. Terms are 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom length. It does not cover land-based casinos.

For Ontario casinos, OLG's My PlayBreak offers self-exclusion for 3 or 6 months, or 1 to 5 years. It is arranged through the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, on-site staff or a PlaySmart Centre. Once set, the term cannot be cancelled early. ConnexOntario offers free, confidential help 24/7: call 1-866-531-2600, text CONNEX to 247247, or chat at connexontario.ca.

Paid links on this site

Only the home page of this site carries paid links: three, each marked Ad, all leading to the same online casino partner. They are for Ontario only, and players must be physically located in Ontario. The site earns a commission, and the partner can change. This page carries no paid links. Casinos, transit agencies, OLG, the province and help services never pay this site.
