Great Blue Heron on Scugog Island is the only one of the five casinos to state that all entrances are fully accessible. It sits 41.3 km from central Pickering in a straight line, and reaching it without a car is the hard part.

The hotel rooms

The hotel at Great Blue Heron has 116 rooms. Two room types are listed with an accessible bathroom with roll-in showers. The King Accessible room is 325 sq ft, and the King Suite is 696 sq ft. How many accessible rooms the hotel has is not published. The hotel line is 905-743-5860, and the casino line is 905-985-4888.

Service animals are not charged pet fees, though a cleaning fee may apply for soiling or damage. Anyone 19 or older can make a reservation. Check-in begins at 4 PM, and check-out is by 11 AM.

Getting there

Parking is free and on site. The number of accessible parking spaces is not published.

No scheduled bus stop is near the casino. DRT On Demand operates in rural Durham, 6:00 to 24:00 on weekdays and 7:00 to 21:00 on weekends. Whether it covers 21777 Island Road should be confirmed with DRT. DRT supplements its fleet with contracted vehicles, both sedans and accessible vans. The operator's wheelchair-accessible Casino Shuttle does not run here; it serves only Toronto and Pickering.

Inside the building

The Nest, the event venue, holds nearly 800 people and opened on January 18, 2024. The Water's Edge Restaurant and Quickbites are open to all ages.

Under the operator's policy, a person with a disability may enter with a guide dog or service animal in public areas. The exception is an animal excluded by another law. If staff cannot easily identify a service animal, they may ask for documentation from a regulated health professional. They may not ask about the person's disability. A support person may come into all premises, subject to age restrictions, and customers may use their own assistive devices.
